Summary
The project aims to develop a computational method that will enable mining, translation, and analysis of relationships among global source materials in one or more underrepresented languages. Specifically, based on the inputs of a preliminary controlled vocabulary in music theory (to be developed via the Magic Grant) and a database spanning source materials from Bulgarian, Chinese, English, Igbo, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Turkish music theories, our objective is to produce a music theory translation AI that helps us identify desired axes of relation between sources (i.e. conceptual theme, discursive threads, and spatio-temporal proximity) using Natural Language Processing and Machine Learning.
